Welcome to a special edition of Explorer magazine! We are going to take a trip to a faraway place. It’s called the Galápagos Islands.
These islands were discovered long ago by accident. A ship going to Peru got carried off course.
Visitors soon saw that the islands are full of life. Birds soar. Penguins zip through the water. Sea lions call to their young. Giant tortoises slowly move along.
Take a closer look at the map above. It helps tell the tale of how the islands came to be. The stories that follow will tell you more about this place. You will read about a famous visitor. His name was Charles Darwin. You’ll learn about giant tortoises and other animals. We hope this issue will inspire you to learn more about the Galápagos!
