Galápagos penguins can only be found in the Galápagos Islands.

The Galápagos have three kinds of living things. Native species are from here and other places. The blue‑footed booby is a good example. Introduced species are not from here. People brought them to the islands, like the goat. Endemic species are only found here.

Galápagos penguins are endemic. They follow cold‑water currents to find food. It’s hot for the penguins on land. So, they cool themselves off by leaning forward. This shades their feet. They stretch out their flippers. This cools their bodies.

This penguin leans in to cool down.

The blue‑footed booby can be found in the Pacific, from California to Peru and on the Galápagos Islands.

Galapagos Only

Lava Lover

The lava cactus is one of the first species to grow on new lava flows. It lives on only six islands.

Walking Fish

The red‑lipped batfish is odd. It swims like a fish. Yet, it also walks on its fins!
