Whale sharks are the largest fish in the ocean. They may live as long as 130 years.
SUPER SIZE. Adult whale sharks can weigh 9 metric tons (20,000 pounds).
THICK SKIN. A whale shark’s skin can be up to 10 centimeters (4 inches) thick.
GENTLE GIANT. Whale sharks are known to be gentle.
SLOW SWIMMER. Whale sharks swim about 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) an hour.
